Today we released our new white paper: Our Best Shot: Expanding Prevention through Vaccination in Older Adults. It provides a comprehensive overview of the factors that drive vaccination underutilization in seniors and offers a list of recommendations on how industry, government, and health care experts can improve patient compliance.

To formally introduce the white paper, the Alliance held a briefing on Capitol Hill featuring an eminent lineup of experts that included:

  • Susan Peschin, MHS, President & CEO, Alliance for Aging Research
  • Fred Selck, Ph.D., Economist, Bates White Economic Consulting and Adjunct Member at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School
  • Ellie Dehoney, Vice President of Public Policy and Advocacy, Research!America
  • Bruce G. Gellin, M.D., MPH, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health
Director, National Vaccine Program Office, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

Peschin and Dr. Selck gave a background into the issue of vaccinations in older adults and elaborated on the summary points of the white paper. (To learn more about these points, check out our handy one-page summary.)

Dehoney followed by laying out the ways research will push forward advances in vaccine development. Dr. Gellin concluded the briefing by offering an excellent summary of ongoing initiatives to increase vaccination use in older adults, including the National Adult Immunization Plan.

We live tweeted the briefing at our Twitter handle @aging_research. Below we offer the tweets from the briefing.
