As we continue to celebrate Older Americans Month, here's an event that will be of interest to all older adults.

Tomorrow, May 12 at 10 a.m. ET, the Trans-NIH GeroScience Interest Group (GSIG) holds the latest in its series of seminars with Dr. Valter Longo, the Edna Jones Professor in Gerontology and Professor in Biological Science and the director of the University of Southern California Longevity Institute. Dr. Longo will be speaking on nutrition, fasting, longevity, and diseases at the National Institutes of Health's home office in Bethesda, Md.

According to his bio page, Dr. Longo is "interested in identifying the molecular pathways conserved from simple organisms to humans that can be modulated to protect against multiple stresses and to treat or prevent diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer’s and other diseases of aging. The focus is on the signal transduction pathways that regulate selective cell resistance, with a particular emphasis on dietary interventions."

This talk promises to offer some fascinating insights on the ever-growing research into nutrition and its potential to affect our healthspan. The event, open to the public at NIH, will also be available via webcast. To learn more, please visit the event page. If you'd like to see previous lectures in the series, visit the archives page.

The Alliance also has a series of films about nutrition and healthy aging that will educate you about the issue. Go here to watch them.
