Each year, between 50,000 and 90,000 adults in the United States die from vaccine-preventable infectious diseases or their complications. The burden falls disproportionately on older Americans, as infectious diseases account for one third of all deaths in people ages 65 years and older. Direct and indirect medical costs from infectious diseases total $120 billion, amounting to 15 percent of all health care expenditures in the United States.

Join the Alliance for Aging Research, in partnership with the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, as we discuss the latest volume of the Alliance's Silver Book®: Chronic Disease and Medical Innovation in an Aging Nation, which shines the spotlight on the human and economic burden of infectious diseases, and explores the value of vaccines in reducing these burdens.
