Over the past two days, the Alliance has been a part of—and a proud sponsor of—the first ever 2015 Healthy Aging Summit in Washington, D.C.

Co-hosted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the American College of Preventative Medicine, the summit attracted an international audience who came to Washington to examine the critical factors that contribute to healthy aging. The summit focused on four main areas: exploring the science on healthy aging, identifying knowledge gaps that need to be filled, promoting the role of prevention and preventive services in improving quality of life in later years, and mobilizing action to improve the delivery of care for those aging in place or in transition.

Over the course of the two days, a diverse range of topics was discussed, everything from geroscience and falls prevention to age-friendly communities and issues important to caregivers. The Alliance was part of a panel discussion on "Impacting the Health of Aging Populations: The Role of Bioactive Research, Innovation and Policy." Our President and CEO Susan Peschin, MHS, moderated the panel, which also included Paul F. Jacques, D.Sc., Tufts University, and Janet Novotny, Ph.D., M.S., and Thomas Wang Ph.D., both from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

This event also presented us with the opportunity to display a poster about vaccination in older adults. (We are debuting a white paper on this tomorrow at a briefing on Capitol Hill.)

We enjoyed getting to know all of the people who stopped by our table to talk and learn more about what we do. We are looking forward to next year!
