On the evening of Tuesday, September 29, the Alliance held the 22nd Annual Bipartisan Congressional Awards Dinner in Washington, D.C., with our friends and supporters to celebrate the cause of aging research and to honor those who have advanced the science of human aging.

It was without a doubt an evening none of us will ever forget, filled with moments of inspiration, hope, and not a few tears.

The dinner was highlighted by our honorees, Rep. Diana DeGette, Sen. Kelly Ayotte, Rudolph E. Tanzi, Ph.D., and Scott Simon, as well as the screening of a new video on the paramount importance of the National Institutes of Health.

Below, we offer both a slide show and a Twitter feed of the events of the evening. We’ll also be posting videos over the next few days. A few items of note to mention.

  • A pre-dinner roundtable brought together a stellar panel of experts to discuss “Aligning Regulatory Processes for an Aging Population.” The panel included Dr. Janet Woodcock and Dr. Jeff Shuren from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Dr. Francesca Cerreta from the European Medicines Agency.
  • An unexpected enjoyable moment occurred when, due to a late schedule change, Rep. DeGette received the Claude Pepper Award for Advancing Healthy Aging at the pre-dinner reception. It helped set a great tone for the rest of the evening.
  • Sen. Ayotte, Tanzi, and Simon all delivered moving, meaningful acceptance speeches that resonated with the audience. We’ll share these speeches soon.
  • We thank our generous sponsors who made this evening possible. And we look forward to next year.
