Throughout May, we've been celebrating Older Americans Month with events and posts focused on helping older adults learn more about the importance of aging healthy.
Over the last couple of months, the Alliance has released a number of resources that educate about health topics that affect older adults directly. Below, we list three of these topics and our available resources about them. They are free to use and share by anyone. For more information about all of the Alliance's available health resources, please visit our Health Education page.
1. Nutrition (and Avoiding Malnutrition) Is Vital to Healthy Aging
As we get older, the nutrition needs of our body change. Practicing good nutrition habits can make a world of difference. A new series of three films from the Alliance provides vital information about nutrition and healthy aging. You can watch them here.
Also critical to know about is the debilitating effect malnutrition can have on older adults. A new short film from the Alliance puts the issue in perspective and offers answers to the challenges of malnutrition in older adults. Learn more here.
2. Practicing Safe Medication Use, Storage, and Disposal
Every year, millions of Americans reach for one of the hundreds of available over-the-counter (OTC) pain medications to find effective relief from minor aches and pains. But there are potential dangers to our health—and the health of our loved ones—if we do not practice safe use, storage, and disposal of medications.
A new film series from the Alliance gives life-saving tips on how older adults can accomplish all three. You can watch the films here.
3. The Global Impact of Diabetic Retinopathy
Two health conditions that loom large for older adults are vision loss and diabetes. Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a leading cause of blindness worldwide. A new factsheet from the Alliance illustrates the seriousness of the problem through statistics and infographics.
