During March, the Alliance is recognizing a number of health observances. One we want to tell you about today is Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Awareness Month.

DVT occurs when a blood clot develops within a deep vein in the body. It can affect people of any age, but the risk of DVT increases with age.

Forty percent of DVTs develop into a potentially deadly pulmonary embolism (PE), which is why it’s so necessary to educate the public about the risks and how DVT can be prevented.

The Alliance has released a “pocket film” that highlights the dangers of venous thromboembolism, or VTE, which includes DVT and PE. The video gives an overview of the condition and highlights its causes, symptoms, and treatment options.

If you are interested in learning more about DVT, the Alliance has a health resource page for further education – which includes a brochure and a quiz.

Watch the video below to learn about the dangers of DVT, how you can spot the signs, and take action. The video is also available in Spanish.
