The Alliance for Aging Research's President and CEO Susan Peschin, MHS, has issued the following statement regarding H.R. 4617, which will provide a temporary moratorium on the medical device excise tax through 2022.
The Alliance applauds the introduction of H.R. 4617 by the House Ways and Means Committee to extend the suspension of the medical device excise tax through 2022. We also encourage Congress to pass this legislation without delay. We support policies that advance medical research and innovation, particularly when they address the needs of aging patients. We believe the medical device excise tax stifles innovation because it places a limiting effect on the critical resources companies can devote to research and development of vital new medical devices. These medical devices help improve detection and treatment of age-related diseases and conditions that affect the health and quality of life of the aging population.
