Communications Director Opening

The Alliance for Aging Research, a leading non-profit company based in downtown DC, is seeking a
talented and passionate Communications Director.

Responsibilities: The Communications Director will coordinate and manage the organization’s activity
in communications, marketing, and public relations. Working with fellow staff, board and committee
members, interns and President/CEO, the Director will propose, execute and manage efforts to promote
the organization’s message and its work, market its programs and events and manage the quarterly on-
line newsletter. Specifically, we are looking for someone to:

  • Develop and execute an annual public relations strategy and communications plan for the Alliance that
    raises the profile of the organizations and its programs and events.
  • Manage press relations and communications to the media.
  • Manage and Market online quarterly newsletter with the intent to increase subscribers and drive traffic to
    the site.
  • Handle all activity related to public relations, marketing and communications
  • Draft Announcements, Press Releases, and Report Summaries
  • Oversee social media (i.e. Twitter and Facebook) campaigns and manage website content
  • Copy-edit reports and potentially create original articles based on Alliance programs
  • Produce Alliance online newsletter, email newsletters, and other communications to be distributed to our
    entire audience
  • Write talking points and speeches for President/CEO
  • Contribute to other communication and marketing projects as necessary
Additional Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years relevant work experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing or related field
  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic and innovative ideas
  • Fast learner who can thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills; working knowledge of HTML a plus
  • Background in healthcare a plus
