Each year, over 1.5 million new cases of cancer are diagnosed in the United States alone. Cancer continues to be the second most common cause of death among Americans, accounting for one out of every four lives lost. Older people shoulder most of the human burden of cancer; as close to 80% of all diagnoses are made in people over the age of 55. The total cost of cancer in 2009 was $216.6 billion and is projected to reach $458 billion in 2030.
On May 21st, join the Alliance for Aging Research, in partnership with the Personalized Medicine Coalition and American Association for Cancer Research, as we discuss the latest volume and policy factsheet from the Alliance’s Silver Book®: Chronic Disease and Medical Innovation in an Aging Nation series, which shines the spotlight on the human and economic burden of cancer and explores the value of innovation—particularly personalized medicine and immuno-oncology—in reducing those burdens.
