Annual event will convene policymakers, researchers, patient advocates, and industry leaders to celebrate progress in healthy aging and honor champions advancing innovation for older adults
The Alliance for Aging Research will host its 2026 Heroes in Health Celebration on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the Waldorf Astoria in Washington, D.C., bringing together leaders from across the health care, research, advocacy, and policy communities. This year’s theme is “Progress, Gratitude, and Healthy Aging.”
The annual event will begin with the Alliance’s signature Conversations with the FDA and CMS. Since 2013, the Conversations have provided a unique forum for agency leaders to discuss policy developments, reflect on progress in improving care for older adults, and share perspectives on the future of medical innovation.

Following a networking reception, which will also feature a silent auction, the Awards Dinner will recognize individuals whose leadership has advanced research, innovation, advocacy, and healthy aging. Widely regarded as one of Washington’s premier health policy gatherings following Congress’ return from its August recess, the event additionally serves as an opportunity for stakeholders from across the aging and health care communities to reconnect and collaborate around shared priorities.
Five awards will be presented during the celebration:
- Claude Pepper Award for Advancing Healthy Aging, honoring a Democratic member of Congress whose leadership has advanced policies supporting medical research, innovation, and care for older Americans.
- Distinguished Public Service Award, recognizing a Republican member of Congress for championing policies that improve health and well-being as Americans age.
- Silver Innovator Award, presented to an individual whose work anticipates and advances research aligned with the needs of older patients.
- Daniel Perry Founder’s Award, recognizing an individual or organization helping transform how society views aging and well-being.
- Perennial Hero Award, honoring an older adult whose ongoing contributions create meaningful societal change and inspire people of all ages.
The 2026 Heroes in Health Celebration continues the Alliance’s longstanding commitment to fostering dialogue among policymakers, regulators, researchers, patient advocates, and industry leaders while recognizing those making lasting contributions to healthy aging.
The event will take place from 3 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Waldorf Astoria, Washington D.C., located at 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue NW. The afternoon Conversations with the FDA and CMS will run from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by a reception and the Awards Dinner beginning at 7 p.m.
