Report, Podcast Episode Offer Hope for Managing NPS

Published March 18, 2026

new report released today from the Alliance for Aging Research offers hope and practical tips for patients and their families navigating the unpredictable and often misunderstood challenges of neuropsychiatric symptoms of Alzheimer’s.

Neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) can include anxiety and depressionagitationapathypsychosissleep disturbances, and wandering. Taking care of a loved one who is experiencing these symptoms can be challenging, especially when there is a lack of awareness and support from health care professionals.

The report, Caring Together: Empowering Families and Health Professionals with Tools for Better Neuropsychiatric Symptom Care captures a variety of resources, expertise, and lived experiences shared during a December 2025 virtual summit, co-convened by the Alliance for Aging Research and the National Alliance for Caregiving.

In addition to the report and videos, the Alliance released an episode of the This Is Growing Old podcast highlighting the report. The episode, “Caring Together, with Jason Resendez” — available wherever you stream your podcasts, on the Alliance website, and a video on YouTube — features a conversation between Jason Resendez, President and CEO of the National Alliance for Caregiving and Katrin Werner-Perez, Director of Health Programs for the Alliance for Aging Research. The episode highlights the summit, survey findings, and resources for the 93% of people who report feeling overwhelmed or emotionally drained caring for someone who has Alzheimer’s-related agitation.

“When we equip families with knowledge, when we give clinicians better frameworks, and when we create space for honest conversations about what neuropsychiatric symptoms actually look like and what can help, we’re not just managing the disease, we’re honoring the humanity of everyone involved in care,” said Resendez.
