Alliance for Aging Research (Alliance) President and CEO Susan Peschin, MHS, has issued the following statement:
The Alliance for Aging Research thanks Chairman Lamar Alexander and the U.S. Senate HELP Committee for advancing the nomination of Dr. Scott Gottlieb as U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) commissioner to the full Senate for a vote. The committee vote was 14-9 in favor of moving the nomination forward.
Dr. Gottlieb possesses both the regulatory and administrative expertise to uphold the FDA’s stellar reputation for safety and innovation and improve patient access to medical products. The Alliance was pleased to join with more than 20 organizations in support of his immediate confirmation.
The United States is at a pivotal moment in terms of public health. The FDA and patients need the leadership and experience that Dr. Gottlieb will bring as soon as possible.
We urge swift confirmation of Dr. Gottlieb by the Senate and look forward to working with him to improve the health and well-being of our nation’s older adults.
