Venous thromboembolism, or VTE, is a term that includes deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. VTE is common, and half of all cases occur during, or soon after, a stay in the hospital. However there are many factors—such as increasing age—that contribute to your risk of VTE. VTE is potentially-life threatening and recurs frequently.
