We Are Looking for a Communications Intern

Are you are a college student interested in communications? Are you looking for an internship in Washington, D.C.? If so, please read on.

The Alliance for Aging Research, a leading nonprofit company based in downtown D.C., is seeking a talented and passionate Communications Intern. This position is ideal for students interested in pursuing public health careers in new media, public relations, marketing, and/or communications.

As the Communications Intern, you will be actively involved in developing strategies to increase brand recognition for the Alliance. This includes actively increasing our presence across all social media platforms, developing content and messaging for our website, social media sites, and newsletters, and identifying new ways to increase the reach of our campaigns.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Using social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) to grow brand awareness
  • Creating marketing campaign initiatives and executing them across a variety of a platforms
  • Drafting blog posts and brief articles for the Alliance's newsletters
  • Assisting with website maintenance: uploading documents, updating our homepage, making routine changes, etc.
  • Compiling social media, email, and website analytics
  • Copyediting communications collateral
  • Researching and updating lists of media contacts
  • Tracking media coverage of the Alliance
  • Monitoring the news media for content ideas
  • Other projects assigned on an as-needed basis

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following qualities:

  • Have experience working with (but not limited to) Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn
  • Have an interest in marketing, public relations, and/or communications. An interest in aging is a plus
  • Have strong writing skills
  • Be highly organized, with the ability to prioritize time-sensitive projects
  • Produce high quality, error-free work
  • Communicate efficiently and professionally
  • Experience with Google Analytics a plus

The Alliance is able to assist in arrangement for academic credit. Our office is located blocks from both Farragut North and Farragut West Metro Stops in Washington, D.C. interns will be responsible for their own transportation.
