DeAndre Sanders, Alliance for Aging Research Staff Accountant

The Alliance for Aging Research is proud to have dedicated staff members supporting the organization in its mission to improve the universal human experience of aging and health. Every month, we’ll spotlight one of our staff members here on the blog. This month, we are featuring DeAndre Sanders, the Alliance’s Staff Accountant.

What do you do at the Alliance for Aging Research?
I am the Alliance’s Staff Accountant. In this role, I work closely with the Vice President of Finance to maintain the accounting records of the organization and work with other departments to maintain their budgets.

How long have you worked at the Alliance?
1 year and 7 months.

Where are you from, and what brought you to the Washington, DC area?
I am from Maryland and college brought me to DC. I attended Howard University.

What is your favorite project or topic you’ve worked on while at the Alliance?
My favorite project is the annual audit. The annual audit is really the climax of our responsibilities. What we do throughout the year is reflected in how well the audit goes. It shows how well we do our job at the end of it all. We learn a lot during this process.

Do you have a personal connection with any of the health issues/conditions the Alliance works on?
I am lucky enough to not have any family members that have any issues related to the conditions that the Alliance focuses on.

What is something you’ve learned about healthy aging since working at the Alliance that has either changed your view or impacted the way you personally approach aging?
Working at the Alliance has reaffirmed the importance of regular check-ups with my doctor, maintaining a healthy diet, and being mindful of my general health.

What is your favorite book?
Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

What is one thing that not many people know about you?
I just recently passed the CPA exam and am going through the process of being certified. It was a challenging experience. It took a lot of diligence and hard work to get through. Finally being at the end of the process is rewarding.
