Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) affects as many as 11 million people across the U.S. For older adults, it’s particularly challenging, as it is a leading cause of vision loss for older Americans.
Earlier this month, the Alliance, in partnership with BrightFocus Foundation, debuted an important campaign that encourages all of us to “Take a Closer Look at AMD.” (To find out the particulars of the campaign, please visit here.)
Our friends at BrightFocus are the perfect partners for this campaign. The organization’s website has a tremendous collection of resources to help you learn more about AMD.
One feature we wanted to share in this post was a recent “Answering Your Questions about AMD” teleconference that BrightFocus held with age-related macular degeneration specialist Dr. Joshua Dunaief from the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine.
The Q & A featured Dr. Dunaief’s feedback on topics such as treatment options for wet AMD, the use of AREDs to mitigate the effects of AMD, and what to do when seeking a second opinion.
