The Trans-NIH GeroScience Interest Group (GSIG) hosted its summer seminar on Thursday, July 13, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., on the NIH Campus (Building 49, Room 1A51/1A59). The seminar, titled “Hematopoietic Stem Cells Aging – Mechanisms, Consequences and Interventions,” featured Dr. Emmanuelle Passegué. Dr. Passegué is a Professor in the Department of Genetics and Development at the Columbia University Medical Center and Director of the Columbia Stem Cell Initiative (CSCI) in New York.
Dr. Passegué’s is well-known for her research on hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) biology. Her current projects explore the role of apoptosis, autophagy, immune regulation, DNA repair mechanisms, and changes in the bone marrow niche microenvironment in HSC function in normal, stress, leukemic and aging conditions.
