The Initiative to Change the “D-Word” is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to eliminating the words “dementia/demented” to reduce stigma, increase early detection and treatment, and increase accuracy around cognitive impairment. As a member of the Advisory Committee, Lasser will help to guide the Initiative to Change the “D-Word” as it seeks to change the conversation around cognitive impairment through advocacy and education.

With a commitment to addressing the stigma surrounding cognitive impairment, the Initiative to Change the “D-Word” will play a crucial role in shifting the paradigm of how we talk about cognitive impairment and ensure that people living with cognitive impairment are able to seek early detection and treatment without stigma.

Lasser, who brings her insight and experience in health policy, will be instrumental in guiding the Initiative’s strategic engagements and helping to further its reach.

“We are thrilled to welcome Adina Lasser to our Advisory Committee,” said Initiative to Change the “D-Word” Founder & Advocate in Chief, Mike Zuendel. “Her expertise and passion for making a difference in the lives of those affected by cognitive impairment will be invaluable as we continue to build this initiative and expand our impact.”

Lasser expressed her enthusiasm for the mission of the Initiative. “I am honored to be part of the Initiative to Change the “D-Word’s” mission to change the conversation around cognitive impairment,” she said. “The stigma around the ‘d-word’ is significant, and inhibiting people from seeking the life-changing treatments now available or participating in clinical trials. In tackling the way we talk about cognitive impairment, we support diagnosis, treatment, and research into Alzheimer’s disease and other related diseases.”
