On July 14, 1965, President Lyndon Johnson signed a ground-breaking piece of legislation: the Older Americans Act. The law was passed due to a growing concern about the lack of community social services for older adults. The law led to the establishment of the Administration on Aging and “created the foundation for a system of services and supports that enables millions of older adults in this country to continue to live independently as they age.”
Today, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of this landmark legislation.
