Atherosclerosis is the narrowing or hardening of arteries from the build-up of plaque that can block normal blood flow or break-off and cause a clot. When atherosclerosis occurs in the arteries that supply blood to the brain, Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) develops and is major risk factor for stroke. Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) occurs when there is atherosclerosis of arteries in the legs, which can lead to ulcers and even amputation.

CAD and PAD impact an estimated 25 million Americans, which makes these serious diseases important to call attention to and publicly discuss.

The Alliance for Aging Research and WomenHeart will be co-hosting a Twitter chat on Wednesday, March 4 from 1:00-2:00 PM EST to discuss the risk factors, symptoms, prevalence, incidence, impact on women and minorities, serious consequences, and treatment options for CAD and PAD.

Be sure to follow the handles @Aging_Research and @WomenHeartOrg and hashtag #CADPADChat in your tweets so that you can see the questions that we’ll be asking throughout the hour.
