U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte (NH) was the recipient of the Alliance’s Distinguished Public Service Award for her leadership in the U.S. Senate in launching and co-chairing the Assisting Caregivers Today (ACT) Caucus to elevate the issue of family caregiving and for introducing and co-sponsoring several legislative proposals to strengthen the U.S. mental health system. She received the award at our 22nd Annual Bipartisan Congressional Awards Dinner at the Willard InterContinental Hotel in Washington, D.C.
At the dinner, she also offered some remarks on the value of the National Institutes of Health and the importance of caregivers, including this very important observation:
There are so many ways we can work together to make sure all of us can live a quality life in this country. It really begins with what we are willing to invest in research. I don’t want to see the United States of America fall behind on…investing in research because we’ve always been the innovators; we’ve always been the ones with the tremendous new ideas; and we need to continue to invest in that innovation, in science, in those ideas.
