In the third of four briefings looking at the growing burden of chronic disease and the promise of innovation, the Alliance for Aging Research will focus on neurological diseases. More than 5 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s disease, with age being the greatest risk factor. One in eight people age 65 and older, and nearly half of those over 85, have the disease. There are more than 1 million Americans who live with Parkinson’s disease, with 60,000 new cases diagnosed each year.
