Alliance, 20 Clinician Advocacy Organizations to VRBPAC: mRNA Flu Vaccine Option is Important for Older Adults

The Alliance for Aging Research led 20 organizations in a sign-on letter to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRBPAC) ahead of its June 18 meeting on Safety and Effectiveness of MFLUSIVA (Influenza Vaccine, mRNA) manufactured by Moderna TX Inc. The letter urges the consideration of the MFLUSIVA (Influenza Vaccine, mRNA), for the prevention of influenza virus subtypes A and type B represented in the vaccine, for people ages 50 years and older.
The letter addresses three main points:
- Older Adults Are Disproportionately Impacted by Influenza
- Multiple Vaccine Options Support Individualized Approaches and Expand Access
- Advancing mRNA Technology Preserves the Infrastructure Critical for Future Pandemics
The Alliance believes that vaccines for older adults with heightened vulnerability to flu-related complications are welcome innovation. They help to support patient choice, expand access, and advance the public health infrastructure that combats seasonal flu and future pandemics.
