New Film Explains Three Flu Vaccines Options for Older Adults

Published October 28, 2024

Most people who get the flu this season will recover, however, those over 65 years old and those with chronic health conditions are at a higher risk for developing serious symptoms. The risk of heart attack is six times the normal risk within one week of confirmed infection. Older adults are at the most serious risk because as we age, our immune systems are not as strong.

The Alliance for Aging Research has released a new educational film, Flu and You: Getting the Right Vaccine for Your Age to help inform older adults and their loved ones about flu vaccine options designed for older immune systems.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that people over 65 get one of three preferential vaccines designed to offer enhanced prevention. Most health insurance plans, including Medicare, cover the cost of this vaccine.

Learn more about the vaccine types by watching the film and check out AgingResearch.org/OurBestShot for more information about all vaccines recommend for older adults.
