10th Valve Disease Awareness Day
Makes a Memorable Impact

As many as 15.3 million Americans have heart valve disease, but research indicates that 3 out of 4 people don’t know anything about it. This year, we proudly celebrated 10 years of Heart Valve Disease Awareness Day — February 22. Leading more than 135 partners in awareness and educational activities through American Heart Month, our message was simple: listen to your heart.

This year, the Alliance released a new website with updated resources — one of which made a debut in Times Square, a film featuring a patient’s journey, and an episode of This Is Growing Old.

And finally, the Alliance’s flagship event celebrating 10 years of awareness convened advocates and leaders in policy and care in the U.S. Capitol to honor a decade of collective impact.

The statement also supports the suit’s argument that the HHS Secretary unlawfully appointed ACIP members based on political affiliation, rather than merit, and bypassed established scientific review processes.

Alliance Celebrates Innovators this
Black History Month

Happy Black History Month! This February, the Alliance celebrates the Black clinicians, experts, policymakers, and leaders who have blazed the trail to a healthier, more equitable future for aging communities everywhere.

In theme with Valve Disease Day, we honored the first ever successful open-heart surgery, performed by Black cardiologist Daniel Hale Williams in 1893. His work catalyzed innovation in cardiology for years to come.

Let's continue to amplify the incredible work of African American changemakers.
