Poll: Respondents More Favorable of Candidates Who Support TAVR Access
TAVR — a life-saving minimally-invasive treatment for aortic stenosis that many physicians and patients prefer because it avoids open heart surgery, is not accessible to many of the 2.5 million Americans over age 75 because of barriers in the Medicare system.
According to a poll by the Alliance, voters want Congress to step in and require the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) improve TAVR access. In fact, 84% of adults age 65 and older say they would be more likely to vote for a Congressional candidate who supports requiring Medicare to broaden patient access.
The Alliance is calling on allies to contact CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz to ask him to eliminate CED which is hindering patient care.

Alliance Calls on ICER to Get COVID-19 Vaccine Value Right for Older Adults
The Alliance submitted public comments on the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review’s (ICER) Draft Evidence Report on Vaccines for COVID-19. COVID-19 remains a serious and ongoing threat to older Americans and is responsible for an estimated 360,000 to 520,000 hospitalizations and up to 60,000 deaths annually.
In the comments, the Alliance raises concerns that the methodological choices embedded in ICER’s report paint an incomplete picture of the benefits these vaccines actually have for the people most at risk.
Alliance Urges CMS to Protect Insulin Delivery Access for Older Adults
The Alliance wrote a letter to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz urging the agency to enforce formulary requirements that protect Medicare beneficiaries’ access to insulin delivery supplies.
The Alliance urges CMS to take enforcement action against MA-PD plans that are out of compliance and ensure that older adults living with insulin-dependent diabetes retain meaningful, clinically appropriate choices in how they manage their condition.
