Alliance, 60 Partners
 Appeal to ACIP

This month, the Alliance led a sign-on letter with more than 60 organizations, submitted written comments, and delivered oral testimony advocating for vaccination science during the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP)
two-day meeting
.

The Alliance urged ACIP to preserve clinician and parental choice by maintaining the universal birth dose and schedule for hepatitis B in both the standard and Vaccines for Children program; and defer to the broader scientific community regarding the safety of vaccine adjuvants and other ingredients, and to refrain from recommendation votes on these topics.

Neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) of Alzheimer’s and related dementias such as agitation, anxiety and depression, psychosis, sleep disturbances, and wandering, can put the patient and caregiver at risk of injury. Podcast: Improving Access
to Patient-Centered Care

"…how do we refine the measurement so that it can provide meaningful information about quality of care?"

Equitable access to treatment is vital for older adults with Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases, especially in long-term care. CMS’s Long-Stay Antipsychotic Medication quality measure aimed to curb inappropriate use in nursing homes, but it has also led to unintended consequences, limiting safe and effective treatment options for more than 3 million residents.

A new Manatt Health report supported by the Project PAUSE Coalition explores these impacts and offers recommendations to restore equitable care. In this episode of This Is Growing Old, Chad Worz, CEO of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) and Project PAUSE convener, and geriatric psychiatrist Dr. Amita Patel discuss the findings and call on CMS to revise, remove, or retire the current measure from the Five-Star Quality Rating System.
