Alliance Reflects on 2023 Impact

Last year, we advanced our health education and public policy efforts supporting the dignity, independence, and equity of older Americans. We proudly present the Alliance for Aging Research’s 2023 Impact Report: Changing the Narrative to Achieve Healthy Aging and Equitable Access.

This report highlights our collective work and underscores the significance of our ongoing work to achieve a culture that embraces healthy aging as a greater good.

 Congress Directs FDA to Review Use of Boxed Warning and Data for Antipsychotics in Older Adults 

The Alliance along with the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) were able to secure language in the recently enacted FY24 Appropriations Bill. The language directs the U.S. Food & Drug Administration to hold a public workshop focused on the application of black box warnings for antipsychotics, specifically in older adults.  

Members of Project PAUSE consider this is critical step in remedying a dire situation for millions of Americans and their families facing neuropsychiatric symptoms of Alzheimer’s and dementia on a daily basis. We are thankful to the Members of Congress who helped make this change a reality.

Alliance Files Amicus Briefs in Ongoing Inflation Reduction Act Litigation

On March 6, the Alliance filed a neutral amicus brief for consideration in court cases that center around the question of the legality of certain provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Our filings highlight potential unintended consequences, including concerns about QALYs and reduced acces to care.

Alliance + 45 Organizations Submit Comments on Needed Provisions of Medicare Advantage Rule

On March 1, the Alliance submitted comments on behalf of 46 organizations in response to the Fiscal Year 2025 Medicare Advantage Advance Notice.

The letter focused on the need for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to create proactive guardrails to prevent harmful unintended consequences as a result of the shift in financial responsibility included in the Medicare Part D redesign in the Inflation Reduction Act.
