Alliance Supports Retention of Dr. Francis Collins as NIH Director

Published June 7, 2017

June 7th, 2017 – Alliance for Aging Research (Alliance) President and CEO Susan Peschin, MHS, has issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s decision to retain Dr. Francis Collins as National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director:

On behalf of the Alliance for Aging Research, I thank President Trump for his wise decision to support Dr. Francis Collins and retain him as director of the NIH.

Dr. Collins is an exceptional scientist and leader, who is highly respected by the NIH institutes and centers, academic research centers across the nation and the world, patient advocacy organizations, industry, and political parties on both sides of the aisle. In a time when scientific breakthroughs are moving faster than ever, the NIH needs Dr. Collins’ steadfast leadership.

The Alliance was honored to organize and present a letter last December to then-President-elect Donald Trump in support of keeping Collins on. The letter was signed by 80 patient and research nonprofit organizations, individual researchers, and companies, including the American Heart Association, the Michael J. Fox Foundation, and Janssen Research & Development, LLC.

We look forward to working with both President Trump and Dr. Collins to advance the vital research the NIH makes possible.
