Cynthia Bens Named as President of the Alliance for a Stronger FDA Board of Directors

Washington, D.C., February 5, 2016 – The nonprofit Alliance for Aging Research announces that its Vice President of Public Policy Cynthia Bens has been named as the president of the Alliance for a Stronger FDA Board of Directors, succeeding Jeff Allen, executive director of the Friends of Cancer Research.
During her year-long term, Bens will assist the coalition’s distinguished board and diverse members in achieving their dual goals of assuring that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has sufficient resources to protect patients and consumers and maintaining public confidence and trust in the FDA.
“I am extremely grateful for this opportunity to serve as president of the Alliance for a Stronger FDA Board of Directors,” says Bens. “The FDA plays a critical role in safeguarding and promoting the health of all Americans, and this coalition of more than 200 patient groups, consumer advocates, biomedical research advocates, health professionals, and industry has worked tirelessly to further the FDA’s ability to tackle current and new challenges.”

The Alliance for a Stronger FDA was founded in 2007 to support the FDA in response to a growing concern that funding was not keeping pace with rising costs. Since then, the Alliance for a Stronger FDA has grown into a national advocacy voice for the agency’s resource needs, working with policymakers for increased appropriations and educating the public about the importance of a stronger FDA.
