Dan Perry Releases Statement on Rep. Alan Grayson
Published July 14, 2015
July 14th, 2015 – Dan Perry, founder and board member of the Alliance for Aging Research, released the following statement on July 14, 2015, in response to questions regarding Alan Grayson’s involvement with our organization:
“Alan Grayson played a key role in the founding of the Alliance for Aging Research and has been a longtime champion of promoting research to improve aging and health for older Americans.
Alan first wrote a thesis paper while completing his studies at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. The paper argued for greater awareness of the science funded by the National Institute on Aging at the NIH and especially for active public input to the advisory council that oversees the aging institute. His insightful paper crossed my desk when I was serving as a senior staffer to then-Senator Alan Cranston (D-CA).
When Alan Grayson moved to Washington after getting his law degree and becoming an associate at a D.C. law firm, I asked him to provide pro-bono legal services to get the Alliance incorporated and registered as a 501(c)(3) organization in 1986, which he did. He continued to serve as counsel on our Board of Directors and as an officer of the Alliance for the next 22 years until he resigned to run for the House the first time in 2008.
I am honored that Representative Grayson mentions the Alliance for Aging Research in his announcement film for his Senate bid and recognizes himself to be integral to the founding of our organization.
I am hopeful that the press can now turn its focus to the substantive health and social issues facing Florida’s aging adults.”
